On December 6, 2018, within the framework of the bilateral Cooperation Agreement between the Russian University of Peoples Friendship (RUDN University) and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, a round table meeting was held on the topic “Increasing competitiveness in the coal industry of Russia on the example of investment in ensuring the safety of miners” ( hereinafter - the round table) at: Moscow, Miklouho-Maclay st., 6, Hall number 1.
The meeting was attended by students of RUDN-University, studying in the profiles "Enterprise Economics", "Company and industry markets", "International Economic Relations", "Urban Economics", "Financial Management in Economy Sectors" and students of the Faculty of Economics and Finance of the fuel and energy complex of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
Participants of the Round Table listened to speeches:
- General Director of Novas Energy Services and Georesonance, PhD in Economics, Nikita Petrovich Ageev;
- the executive director of the group of companies "NOVAS", consultant for interaction with the Skolkovo Foundation, co-author of a number of patents in the field of mining safety Andrei Vadimovich Bochkarev;
- Co-founder of Georezonans, a private venture investor (business angel), actively supporting Russian start-ups, Dmitry Viktorovich Kiselev.

Nikita Petrovich told the audience about the specific features of start-ups in the fuel and energy complex of Russia, focusing on the challenges and prospects. The main reference points of the startup life cycle were identified and discussed. The problems and prospects of attracting the first and second stages of investment in the development of innovations, especially the organization and implementation of field and pilot tests in Russia were identified. Nikita Petrovich also spoke about the difficulties that a startup faces at the implementation stage, suggesting solutions.
Andrei Vadimovich expanded on the issue of improving the safety of the miners as the main factor in increasing the productivity of coal enterprises in Russia. The current situation in the industry and the traditional approach to ensuring the safety of miners were reviewed. A new concept was presented that allows the mining company to increase production figures while reducing the risk of methane emissions in the mine.
Dmitry Viktorovich revealed to the participants the economic attractiveness of "non-standard" investments - investments in the safety of the work of the miners. The presentation touched upon the development of private venture capital investments in Russia from a scientific idea to industrial implementation using the example of an innovative project - “Technology and methodology for advanced degassing of coal seams to ensure the safe operation of miners and for extraction of methane on an industrial scale”. The report clarified the stages of investment life, and also addressed the problems of introducing innovative technologies in Russian realities. The economic feasibility of advance degassing of coal seams for coal mining enterprises was discussed.
